Going to Puerto Rico

Just a quick note: The Wife has finally convinced me to go back to Puerto Rico and visit, something I haven’t done since the summer of 2001. So, if anyone reading there is there now, or will be there between the 7th and 11th of November, you should know that so will I.

Speaking of which, this’ll give me a chance to go back to the Bacardi plant and pick up an item or thirty. (I’m not a big drinker, but I do love the taste of good rum once in a while.) I have a friend who works there, so here’s a big hurray for employee discounts!

I’m still not sure what the schedule’s going to look like, but it’ll probably be a whirlwind trip where I visit my godparents, the town where I grew up, my grandparents, my aunts and uncles, and if I have some time, the Arecibo observatory. (If you’ve never been there, it’s the largest radio satellite in the world. From afar, it looks a bit like a flying saucer that got stuck between three mountains. Up close, it looks more like the worlds largest skateboard half-pipe, one that just happens to have a small farm under it.)

For the most part I’ll be near Bayamon (ba-yah-MOHN), though excursions to Culebra (coo-LEH-brah) and Jayuya (hah-YOO-yah) are likely. I promise to put up some pictures.

By the way, if anyone’s interested (though probably not), if you’re there during that time drop me a note (norb@gnorb.net). Maybe we can have some coffee. Or rum.
