Standpoint from 2010:
- PS3 still around? Yep.
- One of the more popular BluRay players? Yep, because it is upgradable to newer standards (BluRay 1.1, 2.0), unlike every other BluRay player out there. (And HDDVD is dead.)
- Units for $299? Yep.
- Sony's cashing in from both ends? Yep.

I'm going to call this a pretty successful prediction.

I do see your point.

The PSP when compared to other handhelds was also looked at as a more of total entertainment thing.

My one area of caution is that I believe Sony went in a head to head before with different technologies and players? Wasn't betamax their answer to vhs or something. Im not sure. This is far before my time.

Though i do agree wiht your analysis on Sony's lack of care on profit resulting from sale of teh console. Its a powerhouse company with many other fields to dip into in the meantime.

My only concern in the analysis is...if many people dont have a blu ray player/ps3 to start out with because of its high price, or slightly more people have hd dvd players do to a slightly lower price...would you agree that Sony would get screwed?

And yes..ive had the ps2 burnout problem.
