In case you didn’t know, it’s the first Friday of the month. (Captain Obvious to the rescue!) For those of you who are interested, you can find out if there’s a 2600 meeting in your area. Here’s the Florda schedule:

And for my buddies in the Great White North (specifically, in Ontario):

  • Guelph: William’s Coffee Pub, 492 Edinbourgh Road South. 7 pm.
  • Ottawa: World Exchange Plaza, 111 Albert St., second floor. 6:30 pm.

  1. “2600, The Hacker’s Quarterly” is a magazine for computer and information systems enthusiasts (aka “hackers”). The writers for the mag also have a radio show, Off the Hook, which is aired in New York (WBAI), simulcast on the internet, and (in this case) was advertising the monthly meeting for the magazine readers and anyone interested in knowing more about the technology which surrounds us today.

(You can pick up a copy of 2600 at most major bookstores. Personally, I prefer Barnes and Noble, but I won’t hold it against you if you decide to go to Borders instead :).)

I’ve been reading 2600 pretty much since I go seriously interested in computers in 1997. (It’s one of the reasons I really started delving into technology in the first place.) I haven’t gone to any of the meetings (not even this one, sadly), because for a long time there were no meetings in Tampa, and I just found out about this one in Fort Lauderdale this week. I’ll probably make it a point to attend next month’s meeting.

BTW, you can listen to the previous Off The Hook shows here (streaming MP3).
