i think the blackberry tour is a great unlocked phone. i get around it really easy and it seems pretty practical. apps are fun and the email is easy to use. it's very light and it feels good in my hand so i like it. also the screen is bigger than my old phone and i like the qwerty so i'm really happy with it! I got 2 off of gsmallover.com and i've had them for a month and i love them. 2 thumbs way way up!

Gnorb, have you made a decision on a phone yet? I'm actually looking at the Palm Pre, HTC Hero, and Samsung Moment right now, and am not sure how to go. I currently have my HTC Mogul from two years ago, and love it still, but it is a dinosaur with regards to the internet and such compared to what is available today. I'm with you on the Hero - why no flash? And, I also appreciate having the slide-out keyboard. Both of these were selling points for me when I got the Mogul.

All very good questions, all very good points. Depending on the time frame you're working with you may want to wait for unannounced phones, especially now, during the holiday season. If you can hold out 'til Jan, I recommend you do: there'll be more selection and probably a better price. Otherwise, you make a very compelling argument for the TP2. The price tag is a bit... outrageous, especially given the hardware, but that depends, too, on what you'll be doing with the phone. Would the difference between that and the Samsung Moment (being sold for $199 right now, I believe, so ~$150) be justifiable based on what you plan to use it for?

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I'm torn between the Moment and the TP2. I have Sprint and don't plan to leave it. I want to have a physical qwerty keyboard so I can memorize it and take notes. I think I am closing in on the TP2 as the phone for me because I can write in Word and use Excel. I think the keyboard is better as well. I just don't think Android is ready for professional use yet. Plus WinMo has Flash browser support with the free program Skyfire. I'd like to get googlefied but not enough productivity. TP2 drawbacks for me are PRICE $350 are you kidding, and older slower chip. Sprint does not make you have an everything plan with this phone either which is a plus.

Thanks for thinking

@Sublicon: I think I'm with you on the HTC Hero, though it looks like I might end up with Verizon, not Sprint. I'm hoping that the Hero comes out for VZ, but I'm not holding my breath. Might go with the Motorola Shoals (or Droid, or whatever it'll be called.) Blackberry might end up winning anyway, though I realize now that the ONLY reason I want it is because of the keyboard/writing ability. It doesn't really have anything else I'm looking for, particularly access to AR applications like Wikitude.

@Monda: I'll take a look at the Omina. The only concern I have is that it runs Windows Mobile and I'm simply not a big fan of Windows. Not a hater, just don't really like it. If I'm proven wrong, however, it's to my gain, right? Thanks for the suggestion!

I just bought the Samsung Omnia (Verizon) and it has all the features you're looking for - including Microsoft Word. Wireless, big touch screen, the whole enchilada. It takes stunning photos and video.

I almost snagged a Blackberry, but this one won me.

I'm currently using a Blackberry Bold on AT&T. I like the simplicity of the Blackberry and have had several of them over the years, but having come from the iPhone world not too long ago, I'm longing for something more.

My vote is HTC Hero all the way. I think I'm getting it on Friday. Something about giving my life to Google intrigues me. If it will be more convenient for my life in the short to mid-term, then fair enough. ;)

Man, I'm gonna miss Blackberry Messenger though. In a lot of ways it's more convenient than any IM program. If people have their phone by their side, messenger is also by their side.

That's all I got. Good luck.
